Work starts on £3.5m housing development in Liverpool

Work has started on a £3.5m scheme that will see 33 new homes being built in Liverpool?s Belle Vale area, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.

Liverpool Mutual Homes’ £3.5m scheme involves creating 21 two-bedroom and 12 three-bedroom properties on vacant land in Naylorsfield Drive. The houses will have south-facing landscaped gardens and private driveways, while there will also be a new access road leading from Naylorsfield Drive to form a cul-de-sac.

The modular homes will be built offsite in factory conditions and delivered in stages with ground floors, upper floors and roofs craned into place. The homes are expected to be ready by the end of 2015.

Steve Coffey, chief executive at Liverpool Mutual Homes, said: "The demand for good-quality affordable housing continues to grow nationally and is magnified in Liverpool. Therefore we need to explore ways of speeding up the process.

"Building offsite means we are not affected by bad weather, the quality can be controlled better and there’s less disruption for the local community. We expect this scheme will save us significant time compared to building the homes in the traditional way. Reducing build times also reduces costs.”
