Plans to build 900 houses on Woodford Aerodrome set for approval

Plans to redevelop the former BAE Systems site at Woodford Aerodrome into an estate comprising more than 900 houses along with 90,000 sq ft of business space, shops and a primary school are set to be approved by planners at Stockport Council, a news report in the local business media was able to reveal.

The hybrid application is made up of two parts – the first section is seeking outline approval for up to 775 houses, 90,000 sq ft of commercial space, five shops providing a total of 10,000 sq ft, a pub and a primary school for 210 pupils, while the second one is for full permission for 145 houses.

The former aerodrome site covers 506 acres, with roughly 300 acres being within the jurisdiction of Stockport Council with the remainder covered by Cheshire East Council.

As part of the application, the developers argued that the equivalent of 169 permanent construction jobs would be created once work is underway and the proposed commercial units could led to the creation of 277 full-time equivalent jobs.
