Plans put forward for community college redevelopment
Plans for redeveloping the site of a college into a new residential area that could include up to 98 homes have been submitted to Knowsley Council, a recent news report in the local business media has been able to reveal.
The CBRE Manchester planning and development team has submitted an outline planning application for the eight-acre site off Rupert Road. Currently used as the Roby Campus, the site comprises a collection of buildings used for teaching and administrative functions alongside parking and open space.
The site is due to be vacated by the college in the 2016/17 academic year as part of its strategy to build new facilities at Stockbridge Lane and Princess Drive. The college is proposing to sell the site for residential development to release funds for the relocation.
The proposed two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes have been designed to complement the surrounding residential development and protect and enhance the existing green infrastructure, as well as bringing an appropriate land use to the surplus educational site.
