Plans for former church schoolhouse redevelopment set for approval

Plans for redeveloping the site of a historic former church schoolhouse in Liverpool and transform it into almost 200 student rooms are set for approval by local planners, a recent news report in the local business media has been able to reveal.

The proposal by Bridgewater Services to redevelop the site aims to convert the former schoolhouse and construct a new part-five, part-six and part-eight storey accommodation block linking into the rear of the building with 31 studios and 29 accommodation clusters. The scheme would create 193 student rooms in total.

The original building dates back to the 1860s and has a honey-coloured sandstone front elevation with gothic-style window details but has been extensively altered inside. The site was previously awarded planning consent to create 50 apartments with two ground-floor retail or office units in 2005 and again in 2006.

Ahead of the committee meeting, a report prepared for councillors has recommended that the new scheme should be approved. Explaining the decision, it advised that the site has been a "derelict eyesore for a number of years without any other schemes coming forward".
