Plans for extensive development in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle approved by local councillors

Councillors have approved an application to redevelop a 0.5-acre site bounded by Greenland Street, New Bird Street and St James Street into a multi-storey building featuring commercial space and more than 150 apartments, a news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

The proposal would involve the demolition of an existing one-storey commercial block and the construction of a building ranging from seven to 11 storeys high. It would have 6,663 sq ft of ground-floor commercial space over four units to provide a mix of studio and workspace accommodation as well as residential space on the upper floors.

It is envisaged that there would be eight studios, 68 one-bedroom apartments and 81 two-bedroom apartments.

The Baltic Triangle and its historic warehouses formerly played a central role in supporting Liverpool’s shipping trade but in recent years the area has been reinvented as a hub for the city’s creative industries.
