Plans approved for six-storey student accommodation scheme in Preston
Plans for a six-storey student accommodation scheme in Preston has been approved by the local authorities, with construction work set to start at some point in the near future, a recent news report in the local business media has been able to reveal.
The Urban Hub will provide 425 self-contained studios on Moor Lane at the corner of Ashmoor Street. It will also incorporate a gym, prayer room, library, roof terraces and retail units.
Designed on behalf of developers Pillars, the scheme was praised during the planning process with a report to councillors stating that the scale and design of the development "would be striking and visually prominent but has been sensitively designed to integrate into the urban street scene and would positively contribute to the character and appearance of the area".
David Cox of David Cox Architects said: "The design for the outside spaces references a project undertaken by a group of post-graduate UCLan students, led by Prestonian and professor in graphic design Ben Casey, who explored the idea that local history can inform the design of the public realm and proposed a walking museum through Preston city centre with exhibits displaying its cultural connections."
Projects of this size and scope are likely to involve an extensive number of contractors, who will require dedicated management and monitoring.
