Plans approved for 500 apartments in Liverpool city centre

Liverpool City Council’s planning committee has approved plans to build 500 new apartments across the city centre as part of three different developments, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

Liverpool City Council’s planning committee has approved an application by Your Housing Group’s Hive brand, its private rented sector arm, to build a 31-storey residential tower on William Jessop Way at Princes Dock. The Hive City Docks scheme involves creating 278 private rented sector apartments, comprising 40 studios, 114 one-bed apartments, 110 two-bed apartments, and 14 three-bed apartments.

At the same meeting, councillors have approved an application by Peel Holdings to construct a 15-storey residential tower on William Jessop Way just to the south of Hive City Docks. The £21m Plaza 1821 scheme being built for the Regenda Group features 105 apartments, including a mix of one- and two-bed homes, as well as two ground-floor commercial units.

Meanwhile, an application by Study Inn to demolish the former Copperas Hill Police Station and build a seven-storey student block has been approved as well. The scheme features 111 self-contained studios and 16 ‘cluster apartments’ each comprising six bedrooms and a communal lounge/kitchen.

There would also be a management office and reception on the ground floor, and a common room, gym, cinema room and meeting rooms on the lower ground floor.

Projects of this size and scope are likely to involve an extensive number of contractors, who will require dedicated management and monitoring.
