New jobs to be created in Workington to support windfarm vessel project

Up to nine jobs are set to be created in Workington after two local maritime engineering companies have managed to secure an Investing in Business grant from Britain’s Energy Coast (BEC) in order to develop a new vessel for servicing offshore windfarms that can cope with challenging sea conditions.

Coastal Charters and SB Engineering will work together in order to develop the 21st Century Wave Access vessel project. transport 12 travellers plus crew in a more fuel efficient and faster way in deteriorating sea conditions, a news report in the local business media was able to reveal.

Nine jobs are to be created by the project and if it is a commercial success and full production gets underway, many more roles could be created.

The Investing in Business programme is funded by the Regional Growth Fund and Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and supports businesses aiming to create jobs by investing in assets such as buildings or equipment or for research and development.
