More than 100,000 new jobs could be created in Liverpool by 2040 under a new strategy

The Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), working on behalf of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, has revealed a new strategy to deliver greater economic growth and prosperity for residents that could see more than 100,000 new jobs being created in the area by 2040, a news report has been able to suggest.

The strategy also envisages a net increase of 20,000 businesses, an additional 50,000 people coming to live in the region, and the size of the economy nearly doubling to £50bn.

Responding to the challenges and opportunities outlined in the report by the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University entitled ‘The State of Liverpool City Region Report: Making the most of Devolution’, the strategy aims to identify priorities to tackle the biggest challenges facing the city region including the local economy, transport, health and wellbeing, skills, housing and the environment. Oxford Economics conducted the research.

The strategy provides a vision for how the region can deliver sustained, ambitious growth for the city region with a particular focus on productivity, people and place. It also builds on the region’s assets linked to key growth sectors and their economic significance to become a truly globally competitive city region at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse.
