Investment agreed for hotel development
The Carlton Hotel & Banksys Café Bar in Lytham is going to turn over a new leaf thanks to a new investment deal.
Vincents Solicitors’ Craig Aikman has paired entrepreneur Steve Smith and hotel owner Roger Banks. The pair have secured a significant investment from NatWest. Each of the 16 bedrooms will be refurbished and the ground floor space transformed.
Smith’s wife Dina and son James will also join Banks’ mother Johannah at front of house.
Banks said: "I was looking for an investor to come in to help take the hotel to the next level and hopefully take on some new projects. We’ve got a great product and a loyal customer base, but we know there is still more that we can do.
"Craig introduced me to Steve and to NatWest and brought together the deal very quickly and very smoothly."
Smith, who founded electrical goods distributor MM Group and was looking for a new challenge, added: "Craig’s intuition that Roger and I would work well together was spot on and the business opportunity is exactly what I was looking for, to get involved with a local business where I see potential, where I can put my skills to good use and really make a difference."

It is vital for hotels to have an accurate record of who is in the building, since not only do they have guests coming and going constantly but they also have cleaning staff, maintenance staff, kitchen staff, bar staff, and many other staff members.
Since many of these staff members will be temporary agency staff, they are likely to still rely on old-fashioned paper timesheet to record their weekly hours.
Getting employees to retrospectively record their hours worked directly onto paper is not only open to fraud and mistakes, it also makes room for human error further up the chain.
Managers have to collect and approve all the timesheets. A study by BrightHR has shown that this can take more than 15 minutes per employee. Those numbers quickly mount up!
Thankfully there’s an easy solution. A workforce management system from Time and Attendance North West would bring your attendance systems up to date and reduce workloads considerably.
Managers would no longer need to approve every single timesheet every single week or month, and accounts staff would no longer need to laboriously type up the timesheets to enter them into the payroll system.
All the staff would need to do is clock in and out using one of our terminals, with either a smartcard or a biometric measurement (fingers or hands). This data is collected in our WinTA.NET software, and it can be exported straight to common payroll systems such as Sagepay.
