Consortium signs £100m regeneration contract for Brunswick area of Manchester

Manchester City Council has just officially selected the S4B consortium for a £100m regeneration project targeting the Brunswick area of the metropolis, a brand-new report in the local business media has revealed.

The consortium comprises contract manager Equitix, social housing and regeneration provider Contour Homes, maintenance company Mears and construction business Galliford Try. The large-scale redevelopment project will involve the construction of 300 houses for sale and 200 council properties, with work being set to begin in the new year with the first council houses available for occupation by spring 2015 and first properties for sale ready by the summer.

Furthermore, as part of this scheme, in excess of 650 council houses will be refurbished and there will also be a new retail area, neighbourhood office, sheltered accommodation and day-care centre.

Councillor Nigel Murphy, Manchester City Council’s executive member for housing and regeneration, said: "Contracting S4B officially to the Brunswick PFI scheme marks the end of a long journey for local residents who have waited many years for their regeneration plans to become a reality. But this milestone also marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for the community who are looking forward to a much welcomed transformation of their neighbourhood."
