Company On The Beach moves into the heart of Manchester

On the Beach, a beach holiday specialist, has opened its new headquarters in Aeroworks, a former aircraft components factory in central Manchester.

The new premises are the result of a multi-million-pound design and refit, and were designed to enable innovation and collaboration. The lower ground floor holds several open working and social spaces including a 250-seater auditorium and theatre, a games room and a beach bar, as well as shaded breakout areas, a virtual aquarium and even a designated chill-out room. The upper floors include open plan office space, creative working areas, beach-themed lounges and state-of-the-art collaboration technology throughout.

Their previous headquarters will remain in use by the contact centre, and will also undergo a major redesign and refit.

On The Beach intend for the move to enable their growth plans. They hope to almost double their workforce to more than 500 employees within the next 5 years.

Simon Cooper, chief executive at On the Beach, said: "After conducting an extensive engagement initiative with all our employees, we are all absolutely thrilled with our new headquarters.

"Not only will they provide a fantastic working environment for our current employees but will also enable us to attract the very best talent from Manchester and around the rest of the UK.

"At heart On the Beach has always been a Manchester-based business, and now we are a business based in the heart of Manchester.  We’re excited about being at the centre of the city’s vibrant digital community and for what the future holds as we continue to grow."

ADT Workplace worked in partnership with On the Beach to create the workspace, which totals 34,507 sq ft.

On The Beach’s move to a new building is a great sign of growth and ambition, especially as part of their wider growth plan. However, it is vital that companies don’t overlook the “boring” aspects of running their business as they get excited about chasing the stars.

An area which is often overlooked by forwards-focused companies is how they measure their time and attendance. This is particularly important if they are also recruiting large numbers of new staff like On The Beach are intending to, since this puts more strain on existing processes.

The least effective form of time and attendance management is still practiced by hundreds of companies all over the country – the self-reporting paper timesheet.

Commonly it leads to employees forgetting exact details of their shifts and filling the sheets in incorrectly, if at all.

Next, somebody needs to collect all of those individual timesheets and enter all that data painstakingly into a spreadsheet in order to send it to the payroll software.

The best solution is to centralise and automate both those parts of the process. With our clocking stations and top-quality time and attendance software, we can do exactly this.

Employees no longer have to fill in any paperwork, because all they need to do is just clock in or out using their smartcards or fingerprints on our clocking machines. We can even provide a web- and mobile app-based-clocking system called the Self Service Module, for those companies which don’t own their own building and can’t alter the wiring.

Whatever the method, the clocking process is over in less than a second and the data is then automatically sent to the central Tensor.NET database.

Payroll staff can then export the collected data later in the month in a format suitable for all the leading payroll programs. Quick, simple and accurate!
