Booking.com is coming to Manchester
Booking.com, one of the largest travel e-commerce companies worldwide, will be opening a new global headquarters for its Rentalcars.com division in St John’s Quarter, Manchester.
The business will be the “anchor tenant” of the Allied London Enterprise City tech campus. The move represents a £100m investment. The letting has been agreed for 12 years.
Booking.com will combine its 1500 employees from 201 Deansgate, Sunlight House, and 35 and 42 Fountain Street into the new 222,000 sq ft building.
It has already hired 75 people into new Manchester tech roles, and is aiming to hire another 200 people without delay, and more into the future.
Construction begins this year and is due to finish in 2020. The office will be the second largest Booking.com location outside of its hub in Amsterdam.
Ian Brown, chief executive of the transport division of Booking.com, said, "We are committed to the city of Manchester and to its future as one of Europe’s largest and most important tech hubs. We plan to develop Manchester Goods Yard into one of the most exciting and dynamic workplaces in the UK."
He added: "Our operations in Manchester form a critical part of our global infrastructure and we have big ambitions to grow here over the next 12 years. To do this, we need to continue to invest in our people, our offices and technology, and our local community – not least in education and enterprise.
"We’re proud to be anchoring Enterprise City as it establishes itself as a hub for talent and collaboration between tech, media and creative businesses both large and small."
Sir Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council, said: "This a major vote of confidence in Manchester by a leading global name which underlines the city’s attractiveness and will open up further job opportunities in our flourishing tech sector.
As the anchor tenant in Enterprise City, Booking.com’s ground transport global headquarters will also help stimulate Europe’s fastest growing tech and creative hub."
When you have new staff moving into a new building to start new roles, there are many things which could be wobbly at the beginning. One of these things is time management and attendance.
With new surroundings and new faces, it is understandable that new managers might have trouble spotting that workers were over reporting their hours, or clocking in once for themselves and once for a friend.
Old-fashioned clocking in and out systems and paper time sheets help facilitate this "time fraud", and cost payroll staff hours of wasted time.
At Time and Attendance North West we offer specialised time and attendance management software which can work either with smartcards, or with biometrics for extra verification.
The WinTA.NET software suite can also set triggers for absenteeism alerts, generate user-defined reports, and export the data straight to all major payroll programs.
It has a familiar Windows™ interface, and can hold details of virtually unlimited numbers of employees, including a photograph of each person if required.
The time and attendance system runs extensive checks to ensure your opted-in employees are complying with European Working Time Regulations.
Available in Lite, Small Business and Enterprise editions, the WinTA.NET Time and Attendance Software is a cost-effective solution for those employing from 10 to 10,000+ staff – so pretty much everyone!
