Award-winning animation studio on recruitment drive after big commission
Factory, a multi-award-winning animation studio, is creating twenty-five more jobs at its Altrincham headquarters due to expanding its premises.
The prolific full-service studio has produced more than 80 hours of animation since its launch in 2010, including shows that are airing on CBBC, CBeebies, ITV, Disney and Nickelodeon TV channels.
The extra staff will enhance Factory’s existing skillsets of visual effects, compositing, CGI, 3D animation and 2D animation.
The reason for the recruitment drive is that Factory has recently received a large commission to create a feature-length 2D animated film based on a book by former Children’s Laureate Michael Morpurgo. The score will be written by Oscar-winning composer Rachel Portman and the film will be co-produced by Leopard Pictures.
The digital expansion will be led by the head of CGI at Factory, Pauline Edwards.
"The work the studio is producing is exceptional and the expansion will add to our super talented team," she said. "Having been part of Factory’s journey over the past seven years I am excited to be a part of such a great team as we move into this new phase for the studio."
Managing director Phil Chalk added: "The 25 new roles will take our head count to 130, a growth we’re incredibly proud of achieving over the past nine years. We strive to produce high quality, distinctive shows and look forward to welcoming new team members to our incredibly talented crew."

An influx of new staff is the perfect opportunity to check whether or not your time and attendance system is as efficient as it should be.
Many companies are still using paper timesheets to record their employees’ hours and calculate their weekly or monthly payslips. There are many disadvantages for using these still in 2019. For example, if your timesheets are submitted monthly it is unlikely that employees will be able to remember their exact hours for the whole month.
This would then lead to incorrect payslips, which could cause problems with the employees. You can even encounter problems with outside authorities if you don’t realise that unreported overtime has put an employee over the Working Time Regulations or under the National Minimum Wage.
Our time and attendance system records everyone’s entrance and exit from controlled doors, using either smartcards or the more expensive but more secure biometric measurements of hands or fingerprints. So there’s no more chance for employees to forget timings.
All the entrance/exit data from our system is exportable into a format suitable for all major payroll programmes.
The software automatically calculates whether employees’ shifts and hours would make them breach the Working Time Regulations. One less thing to worry about!
We also have the Self Service Module, which can be accessed from a browser or from your mobile via the app (available on Android and iOS). This enables employees to sign in and out and request holiday if you cannot use the physical clocking terminals.
