530 jobs lost at Chester-based curtain manufacturer Montgomery Tomlinson

Curtain and accessories supplier and retailer Montgomery Tomlinson has ceased trading and called in administrators from KPMG, as a result of very poor results and increased market competition, a news report in the media has revealed.

Unfortunately, as part of this move, 384 staff across its 123 department store and retail concessions were made redundant with a further 146 job losses at its factory and warehouse facility in Bretton.

And to make matters even worse, employee salaries for August 2013 would not be paid due to insufficient funds, administrators from KPMG said.

Restructuring partner Will Wright said: "Despite the tireless efforts of the directors to secure a sale of, or investment in the business over the last four weeks, it has been impossible to find a workable solution to enable the company to continue to trade and they have made the difficult decision to appoint administrators. Given the cash position of the business, unfortunately there are insufficient funds to make payments for August salaries and we will be working as hard as possible to assist employees in their claims to the Redundancy Payments Office."
