390 extra care apartments to be built in Stoke-on-Trent as part of £100m scheme
A total of 390 extra care apartments for people aged over 55 will be built over the next three years across Stoke-on-Trent as part of a first-of-its-kind scheme worth £100m, a news report in the local media has revealed.
The villages will be created at three sites across the city and facilities will include one- and two-bedroom self-contained apartments, communal lounges, restaurant facilities, a launderette, landscaped gardens, hair and beauty salons, gyms and a variety of social and activity events.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council has selected a consortium of construction, housing, facilities management, property development and architect professionals led by Eric Wright Group, which also includes the Your Housing Group; Kajima Partnerships; and Seddon Construction.
Richard Turpin from the Eric Wright Group, said: "We are delighted to have secured this prestigious contract. The consortium that we put together for this project has worked in partnership to develop a compelling bid and we are looking forward to making our plans for the villages a reality for the people of Stoke."
