A £10m superfast broadband project designed to help business start-ups and job creation in some of the North West region’s hardest to reach rural areas has been announced as part of a wider government announcement by culture secretary Maria Miller.

Kirkby town centre to undergo major redevelopment scheme


A new facility worth £5m is set to open in Kirkby as a part of a major regeneration scheme targeting the town centre, a news report in the local media has revealed.

The Kirkby Centre building, developed on behalf of Knowsley Council, is designed as a modern, fit-for-purpose site which is home to the library, gallery and other council functions. Once the full town centre regeneration scheme is complete, the building will open out onto a new civic square.

Sixty jobs in danger as Lancashire brewer plans to relocate


Lancashire brewing company Daniel Thwaites has revealed plans to carry out a company wide restructuring process as it plans to relocate to a new site in Blackburn, a brand new report in the local business media has revealed.

The company, which employs a total of 350 staff in its brewery, distribution operations, sales force and head office, first announced plans to restructure its brewing operations in the town in 2011, as part of a plan to relocate to a modern out of town premises.

Birkenhead engineering company secures funding for further growth
