Creative Comms firm becomes employee-owned
A Manchester creative communications and digital agency has become employee-owned.
C21 has a turnover in excess of £1m and specialises in design, digital and video communications for clients across the UK and globally.
The deal provides a structured succession plan for founder Christina Clarke who established C21 in 1998.
She will remain in her current executive role to oversee the transition, with plans in place for her to become chair in future.
Clarke hailed the “landmark moment”: “It also provides an opportunity for the team to take the next step in their careers and ensure our service to clients continues to strengthen and grow.
“Employee ownership was the clear and obvious future for our business – this will make a material difference to our staff, protect the agency’s independence and commitment to clients, whilst providing the stability of a gradual and clear transition to new leadership.”
Law firm Brabners advised on the deal. Its team was led by partner Stephen Hadlow. He said: “As a growing number of firms transition to employee-owned business models, we’re seeing continued interest from boards and owner-managers who want to secure the future independence of the business”.
