Accurate time and attendance management is vital for accurate payslips
Centrica Business Solutions has expanded its combined heat and power production facility in Salford. This will create 20 jobs.
The company is looking to increase the size and number of units they create.
The new factory – which builds CHP plants for a range of customers such as schools, hospitals and industrial facilities – will support the company as it looks to increase both the size and number of units constructed. The units work by turning gas into electricity and into heat in one process, rather than two.
Alan Barlow, UK&I director at Centrica Business Solutions, said: "The expansion of this facility is a proud moment for us. We are the only major company to design and manufacture CHP units in the UK and this investment shows we are continuing our commitment to the North West.
"This new factory will allow us to build bigger units onsite and increase production, putting us in a strong position to respond to customer demand for onsite generation."
Councillor Alex Ganotis added: "Expanding this facility means the creation of skilled jobs and growth in the area. The demand for the state-of-the-art technology being built here is proof that organisations in the public and private sector alike are looking to make their energy use more efficient, cutting energy bills and carbon."

Moving into a new building is the right time to assess your current time and attendance management system, especially if you are planning to hire new staff. Production is one of the many industries that relies on hourly paid staff, and as a result needs very accurate payroll processing.
If you are still recording employees’ attendance using paper timesheets, then you are likely to be making your payroll staff work very inefficiently. All the time that they spend deciphering employee handwriting and typing out hours worked into Excel could be spent better elsewhere. Even after all that work, typos and misreadings can easily lead to incorrect payslips.
Even assuming that your employees are all good and honest people who have 100% attendance at work, you could still be risking issues if you are not accurately monitoring their time at work. For example, if your timesheets are submitted monthly so employees forget their exact timings and just fill it in roughly. If they are doing a lot of unrecorded overtime they could actually be breaching the European Working Time Regulations, or the National Minimum Wage Act.
To avoid complications, consider bringing your time and attendance into the 21st century with Time and Attendance Southern. We can provide clocking terminals which are operated with smartcards and/or biometrics, and our software will work for you whether you’re an SME or a multi-national company, a restaurant, a design studio or a construction site.
