Automotive engineering business set to close Leyland base, make all employees redundant

A well-known automotive engineering business has revealed plans to completely cease operations at its Leyland base and make the entirety of the site’s workforce redundant, a news report in the local business media has been able to suggest.

Torotrak which also has an office in Silverstone, launched a consultation process with staff as part of plans to refocus in response to increased market demand for electric vehicles and the shift away from diesel engines.

This included taking steps to consolidate the group’s engineering resources and reduce the ongoing cash operating costs.

However, following a period of employee consultation the board has decided to close the Leyland site and make all staff working there redundant. Torotrak said it would continue to focus on realising value from its technology portfolio and other assets.
