Plans approved for redevelopment scheme that could create and secure thousands of jobs
Plans for a huge redevelopment scheme that will see the 400-acre Alderley Park site in Cheshire being transformed into a "world-class hub for the life sciences" which could help to create and secure thousands of jobs have been approved by the local council, a recent news report has been able to reveal.
The approval in outline form is for 409,029 sq ft of laboratories, offices and light manufacturing space, 16,146 sq ft of retail, café, restaurant, pub and/or crèche facilities; up to 275 homes including 60 for retirement/care use; a 100-bed hotel; 21,528 sq ft of indoor sports space; and 150,695 sq ft of multi-storey car parking providing up to 534 spaces.
It is estimated that Alderley Park could contribute about £245m to the economy annually. It will also provide a boost to the job market with up to 415 construction jobs per year, being sustained during the ten-year construction phase of the development.
Gary Halman, managing partner at HOW Planning, who worked on the plans, said: "It is fantastic news that the strategic planning board has supported these exciting proposals which are an important milestone in the rebirth of Alderley Park as a major hub for the life sciences.
"It’s been a very positive working relationship with Cheshire East, and testament to the shared vision amongst all stakeholders that this site has a pivotal role to play in the UK life sciences sector.
"It’s a fantastic scheme which will deliver not just major economic benefits, but also lots of positives for the local community- including public access to the superb parkland and large areas of woodland for the first time, providing great leisure opportunities for local residents."
