Jobs in danger as drinks manufacturer opens redundancy consultations

Multiple jobs could be in danger as a Huyton-headquartered drinks manufacturer and distributor opened redundancy consultations with staff, a news report in the local business media can reveal.

The company, Halewood International, fell into the red in January 2016, as a result of a highly competitive drinks market, reduced consumer disposable income and redundancy costs. Turnover dropped by 14 per cent to £231.1m over a 1-year period and the company’s headcount dropped to 947 staff from 1,116 a year earlier.

And now, the firm announced that it has embarked on a strategy that focuses on and invests in its core brands "as part of a wider strategy to deliver future financial performance and long-term sustainability".

It added: "In response, we are making changes to our organisational structure. We greatly regret the impact that this will have on a number of colleagues, however it is essential if we are to create a leaner, more efficient and fit-for-purpose organisation.

"Whilst we can’t make any further detailed comment whilst we are in consultation, we expect that the limited number of jobs at risk will result in fewer than 19 potential redundancies; Halewood International employs 521 people in the UK, 344 at our Huyton plant.”
