Work set to start on new housing development in Stockport

Construction set is set to begin on a new 65-house development in Stockport, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.

A 4.5 acre parcel of land at Cherry Tree Lane, which previously accommodated the Cherry Tree Hospital, is to be redeveloped into a range of one to five-bedroom properties. A public open space will also be created as part of the project.

The demolition of the former hospital buildings is complete and infrastructure works are to begin shortly ahead of construction of the new properties in the coming weeks.

Richard Dean, land acquisition director for developer Elan Homes in the North, says: "Cherry Tree Hospital opened in the late 19th century but by the mid-1990s the majority of the site had closed.

"The site has now been cleared of those redundant buildings and we’re working towards bringing the land back into good use by providing 65 new homes, including 16 affordable properties."
