BT Cables invests in excess of £1m in north Manchester factory

BT Cables, a subsidiary of the BT Group, has invested more than £1m in its factory in north Manchester, as part of a scheme to bolster its operations and staff, a news report in the local business media has recently revealed.

Following this investment, at least 40 existing jobs will be secured, with more set to be created later on this year. The funding was used to improve factory equipment, infrastructure and workforce at the site in Blackley, which has been in constant operation for more than 115 years and employs 114 staff.

Kevin Samuel, chief commercial officer at BT Cables, said: "The investment has made BT Cables more competitive as it allows greater economies of scale and improved efficiencies to keep costs down.

"It has enabled us to manufacture new products at our Manchester facility. The products are predominantly for the rail infrastructure market and are approved for use by Network Rail.

"We’ll continue to review and develop our product and service offerings in order to secure a major market share within the UK and make significant progress in Europe. We’re extremely excited about the future and the opportunities our investment plans are creating."
