Car industry insiders predict that Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port factory will be involved in a straight shoot-out with Opel’s Bochum factory in Germany for one plant to be closed by the parent company. The chief executive of Opel and Vauxhall, Karl Stracke, pledged to “work aggressively” to make the brands profitable, while it is common knowledge Vauxhall and Opel has a manufacturing overcapacity at its European locations. Speculation persists that the Ellesmere Port plant in Cheshire could be shut down.
